Mullens, McGowen, Lamons, Kay and James survive to take Humboldt checkers
For most of the McCarthy Auto Group / USRA Modified feature on Friday evening, it looked like it would come down to two car battle between Manor Saskatchewan's Joey Galloway and Archie, Missouri's Matt Johnson. The two battled tooth and nail during the closing laps, with contact late ending both their nights. Wichita driver Tanner Mullens inherited the lead and held off Chanute's Dennis Bishop for the win.
Setting the stage for the Modified war, defending USRA National B Mod Champion Andy Bryant and Humboldt's Riley Whitworth staged an epic battle for the Ray's Metal Depot / USRA B Mod feature win. As in the A mod feature, hard contact would result in another driver picking up the win. Pittsburg driver Brian McGowen picked up the win, with Tyler Kidwell and Matt Rose rounding out the top three.
Picking up where he left off last Sunday night, Jay Lamon's Jr. cruised to his second consecutive win, out distancing Tyler James and Jason Anderson, for the Fastshafts by Axle Exchange Street Stock feature win.
In Pure Stocks, Chanute's Matthew Kay brought home the win over Derrek Wilson, who had won consecutive nights previous to Friday's races. Bryce Weldon, Ethan Vance and Crew Walburn completed the top five.
In Sport Compact racing, Tevyn James rebounded from a late race accident last week to notch this weeks A feature. Trenton Wilson and Dennis Aiello filled out the top three.
Racing returns in all five weekly classes on June 10th. For full results please visit www.humboldtspeedway.com
