Humboldt Speedway- As temperatures start to heat up, so did racing action at Humboldt Speedway on Friday night. Whelen All-American Modifieds were showcased in the night's action in an instant classic at the “Hummer”. Pole sitter, and winner of seven features, Mitch Keeter was involved in a first lap incident that would send himself and Tad Davis to the rear. Wichita, Kansas driver Tanner Mullens would inherit the pole and lead 18 action filled laps. With two to go, Tuscon, Arizona’s RC Whitwell rocketed into the lead with a wall-bouncing move that brought the fans to their feet for an exciting final lap. Whitwell held off Mullens on the final lap for the win. Whitwell’s teammate Tyler Wolf, Mitch Keeter and Cody Schniepp completed the top five. Heat race wins went to Whitwell and Keeter.
In Fastshafts by Axle Exchange Street Stock action, Jay Lamons shook off last week's mechanical issues and used his front row starting position to his advantage in picking up the win. Lamon’s waited patiently to pass pole sitter Ethan Lamons, last week's winner, for his seventh win of the year. The battle for second ended with Ethan Lamons edging out Brad Jarman, Rusty Etherton and Shane Cook. Heat race wins went to both Ethan and Jay Lamons.
Last week, Shane Collins battled hard for a third place finish. This week in Ray’s Metal Depot B Modified action, Collins blasted from his pole position and led every lap in picking up his first victory in nearly 20 years of racing at Humboldt Speedway. Tyler Kidwell, Cody Jolly, Brian Bolin and Tim VanGotten rounded out the top five. Heat race wins went to Jolly, Collins and Ottawa’s Jeremy Bennett.
In preparation for next week’s $600 to win Factory Stock race, Chanute’s Jacob Ellison threw his hat into the ring as a possible car to beat with his first ever win at Humboldt Speedway. Ellison methodically chased down and passed Humboldt’s Wayne Johnson for the win. Johnson, Dereck Wilson, Joey Decoster and Jon Westhoff made up the finishing top five.
In Sport Compact action. St. Joseph, Missouri’s John Willard racked up his eighth win and of the season in dominating fashion. Grandview’s Jim Witt, in his first competition at Humboldt Speedway, picked up second while Topeka’s Barry Luthi rounded out the top three. Luthi picked up the heat race win.
In races as old as the track itself, the annual Kid’s Bicycle race held at intermission introduced fans to the next generation of possible racers at Humboldt Speedway. Competing in three different age groups and distances the results were as follows: Six and Under: 1st- Matthew Clounch 2nd- Jacey Baker 3rd- Carson Allen. 7-9: 1st-Bryson Felton 2nd- Luke McGowen 3rd- Noah Gawlas. 10-12: 1st Jackson McGowen 2nd- Austin Roberts.
Next week the Factory Stock division will hold a $600 to win race with all other divisions competing for points.
