Humboldt, Kansas- On a hot Friday night at Humboldt Speedway, fans kept cool as racing heated up the night in NASCAR Whelen All-American Racing. Webb City’s Mitch Keeter, currently third in Division I standings, returned to McCarthy Auto Group / Humboldt Speedway victory lane with a wire to wire win. Keeter held off a late race charge from Tad Davis to garner the victory. Chase Domer, Paden Phillips and Cody Schniepp rounded out the top five. Next week, Whelen All-American modifieds will race for a $1000 purse.
Cody Jolly backed up consecutive wins in Ray’s Metal Depot B Mod action, to extend his track points and national Division II lead. Jolly outdueled Chanute’s Jimmie Davis, who started on the pole, to wrestle the lead away on elap one. Jolly then held off Chanute’s Kenton Allen who held on for a season high finish in second. Tyler Kidwell, Davis and Riley Whitworth completed the top five. Heat race wins went to Kidwell, Jolly and David Milt.
In Pitt Steel Street Stocks, Jay Lamons Jr. regained the lead with one lap remaining from Longton’s Shane Cook, to pick up another win. Cook, had tracked down and passed the leader Lamons, only to miss his mark on last lap and allow Lamons a shot at redemption. Nick Fritch, Jeremy Willard and Rusty Etherton competed the top five spots. Heat race wins went to Lamons and Etherton.
Whitworth Construction Factory Stocks saw the continuing battle between Jon Westhoff and Bryce Weldon add another chapter. Weldon used his pole position starting spot to hold off Westhoff and Jacob Ellison. Ellison scooted by Westhoff to finish second, Westhoff settling for third. Chanute’s Derrek Wilson and Joey Decoster made up the top five. Heat race wins went to Weldon and Westhoff.
O’Reilly Automotive Sports Compacts saw John Willard pick up his tenth win on the year, allowing Willard to make good on his promise to supply a free bicycle to some lucky fan tp be given away at the July 28th races. Humboldt Speedway encourages fans age under 5 to register for the bicycle to be given away before the Sports Compact feature next Friday. It is asked that the winner be present to win. Willard would also like to remind fans that if he picks his 11th win next week, he will supply another bicycle to be given away. Willard’s win came a bit harder ,as Humboldt’s Eric Ikehorn closed the gap on Willard in the closing laps for second. Cayden Vance rounded out the top three. Heat race wins went to Vance and Willard.
An added bonus to Friday’s night racing was the return of Midwest Mod Lites at Humboldt Speedway. Independence, Missouri’s Dillon Raffurty held off family and fellow racers to pick up a hard fought A Feature win. Raffurty, starting on the pole, got out to a sizable lead before cautions brought him back to the pack. One of those tracking down the leader was Kansas City, Missouri’s David Raffurty, related to the leader but still a competitor. The two battled side by side for two laps before Dillon could regain the lead and the win. David Raffurty settled for second with Pleasant Hill, Missouri’s Ed Griggs taking the third spot.
Racing returns next Friday, July 28th with a $1000 to wins Modified special. The Following week, warriors from the USMTS National Modified Series invade the ? mile high banks to compete in part of “The Hunt” sponsored by Casey’s General Store. The Hunt kicks off in Springfield , Missouri on Thursday August 3rd and the travels to Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri on August 5th.
