Davis Snares Win, Mid Season Champs Crowned

Davis Snares Win, Mid Season Champs Crowned

Humboldt Speedway- With lightning to the south, Whelen All-American Series racing lit up the track at Humboldt Speedway last night with five exciting classes and momentum changing A features.
In McCarthy Auto Group / Whelen All-American A Modifieds, current points leader and MId Season Champion Tanner Mullens of Wichita, Kansas seemed to have the nights A feature well in hand. On lap 18 of the 20 lap feature, Mullens had second place Tad Davis covered en route to the white flag. Mullens fortune changed as he drove too hard into turn one at the Humboldt Speedway and spun, Davis inheriting the lead. Took the checkers with Mullens settling for second. Tyler Davis of Haysville, Kansas rounded out the top three. Mullens picked up the Mid Season trophy, outdistancing Tyler Davis by 93 points an Tad Davis by 95 points.
In Ray’s Metal Depot B Mods, Edgerton, Kansas shoe Dakota Foster erased some personal Humboldt demons on his way to the the win. Foster, starting fifth, used patience and the lower line to methodically pick off cars who chose to run the higher line around the 3/8th mile Hummer.
Chanute’s Tim Van Gotten and Pittsburg, Kansas ace Brian McGowen completed the top three. Heat race wins went to Chanute’s Bryce Weldon, Bonner Springs Ethan Isaacs and defending Division II National Champion Cody Jolly. Jolly, picked up the Mid Season Championship. On Friday, July 27th, the NASCAR B Mods will hit the track competing against Sooner Southern Sport Mods for a $1000 payday. See www.humboldtspeedway.com for further information.
Home Savings Bank Factory Stocks saw Chanute’s Jacob Ellison get by Ethan Lamons and Wayne Johnson on his way to the nights A Feature win. Rounding out the top five were Johnson, Derrek Wilson, Joey Decoster and Mike Churning. Mid Season points Champion Jon Westhoff, saw his 117 point margin over Derrek Wilson enough to seal the Championship. Emporia’s Krew Walburn secured third in points.
The Tumbleweed Music Festival Street Stocks saw Jay Lamons Jr pick up another win, this time working multiple lanes to get by Scott Stuart for the win. Stuart and Scott Lucke would complete the top three. Humboldt’s Nick Fritch picked up the MId Season points Championship despite a DNF after a right front parts failure ended his evening. Fritch would see his points lead shrink to just 39 points over Lucke and 84 over Yates Center’s Hunter Oswalt.
In O’Reilly Auto Parts Sport Compacts, Trey Stipp snagged win number four on the year, sneaking by Eric Ikehorn in the closing laps of the nights A Feature. Ikehorn settled for second and Brandon Vink third. Ikehorn collected the Mid Season points Championship by just 19 points over Vink, Curtis WIlson sits just 53 points back at the midway point of the 2018 season.
Just a reminder, Sooner Southern Sports Mods versus NASCAR B Mods for a $1000 payday on July 27th. Then on August 3rd, the USMTS Modified Series rolls into Humboldt Speedway as they chase the elusive Casey’s Cup.
